Abstract: The article is a voice in the debate caused by the current state of the research presented in numerous reports devoted to professional education. Its aim is to show the problems connected with the implementation of the educational process, particularly in basic vocational school. The authors draw attention to the phenomenon of the transition of pupils from the educational system to the labour market, and demonstrate its determinants. They consider both the deficits in the vocational education, as well as the possibilities of raising the quality of education in the schools of that type. They try to show some corrective actions, that can be taken to bring back the proper rank to the vocational education.
